There is a place in Todi that can only be nature, a place where scientific research and environmental outreach are carried out through events. A place where plants, animals, and organisms of various kinds maintain their characteristics. Organisms that are protected and thus help us to understand new things about the world, to make new discoveries that help us and our health. The WWF-affiliated Oasis La Malcontenta e il Lupo is located in Asproli, a beautiful hamlet of the equally beautiful Municipality of Todi, overlooking the Tiber River Park in one of the most characteristic and original areas, from a naturalistic point of view, of our region. Each WWF Oasis, there are 100 in Italy, has specific objectives, and here in Asproli the main focus is conservation, which actually means "opening up" and getting to know nature more and more deeply, through Natural Sciences, and then talking about it with shows, conferences, and professional workshops, from truffles to photography, to cinema, passing through the wolf. The WWF Oases are an opportunity for the territory, and it is not wrong to say that they can be a source of economic development for the local population; the environment and nature can provide support in many ways and therefore every protected area should be seen as an opportunity for growth for all, as well as a wealth in terms of preserved natural heritage. At the WWF Oasis La Malcontenta e il Lupo, on May 17th, one of these events will take place, aiming to raise awareness about the environment and provide accurate information, as well as, of course, being an opportunity to be together and spend a beautiful day among music and science. The Oasis La Malcontenta e il Lupo, as the name itself suggests, has always had a particular interest in this animal species and, especially at this time, believes it is essential to provide information on the subject. Giving everyone the opportunity to ask questions, to find solutions and systems for coexistence. Together we can learn, understand, and solve. On this National Day of WWF Oases, which is part of the Spring of the Oases, scientists and experts will take turns talking about the wolf, both at the national and regional level. The event is sponsored by the Region of Umbria, the Municipality of Todi, and the Tiber River Park and, in view of this occasion, the Mayor of Todi, Antonino Ruggiano, said: “The presence of a WWF-affiliated Oasis in the territory of Todi is a seal on the path that has led the city over the last half-century to be synonymous with sustainability, environmental health, and scenic beauty. Recently included among the 'Spighe Verdi' municipalities, an award equivalent to the Blue Flag for seaside resorts, given for the proper management of rural heritage and natural resources, Todi is committed to enhancing the Tiber Park and its network of trails. The Oasis of Asproli therefore represents another precious piece of the mosaic that returns the city, the villages, and the countryside as perfectly integrated. The scientific and educational initiatives promoted, starting with that of May 17th, can only contribute positively to the enjoyment of the territory and the growth of the local community.” The Oasis wants this Day to be a day of celebration, where people can discuss and listen to interesting talks such as that of the Head of the Tiber River Park, Stefano Gregori, the Head of the regional CRAS WIldUmbria, Francesca Vercillo, Giuseppina Lombardi from the Forestry Service of the Region of Umbria, and the national contributions from the experts of the WWF Fidenza Wolf Observatory and the scientist Marco Antonelli, WWF Italy Large Carnivores Contact. The WWF Wolf Observatories monitor the presence of wolves in the area, conduct science and provide accurate information; who knows, in the future, if the Oasis La Malcontenta e il Lupo might also collaborate with the network of Observatories. For now, we set a date for May 17th at 4:00 pm for the conference on the wolf and the evening with live music played by the DLF band with screenings and an aperitif at the Oasis. To participate in the day, entitled “ULULÒ or WOLVES, INSTRUCTIONS FOR COEXISTENCE, CONFERENCE ON the relationship with the wolf, management systems, and coexistence,” you need to book on the WWF Italy website, on the event page, or at this address: https://www.lamalcontentaeillupo.com/corsi-masterclass For any questions or curiosities, you can contact the Oasis by writing to: info@lamalcontentaeillupo.com (From Corriere dell'Umbria of 15.05.2025)
